UNITY CONGRESS MUST HOLD, NO GOING BACK!
A paper is currently circulating on the social media regarding the authenticity of the NYCN leadership in Katsina State. From whereever it emanated is immaterial to us, what is clear is, it’s a futile effort to undermine our plan to conduct a viable elective congress.
What is more appalling about this highly irrational decision is the fact that, since we have started this process, we have been conducting ourselves in the most orderly manner, within the confines of the law. We involve security agencies in all our activities. We report to the governor and the Department of Youth Development at the end of every meeting or any other activity.
When the DSS and the Police invited us for a parley, we flooded the other faction with concrete reasons. We cited article 15 of the constitution which states that the NYCN is ‘autonomous in operation, planning and execution of all its activities without interference from the government or any external body.’ But while the DSS became fully convinced and subsequently participated in all our activities, the police seemed otherwise and hence boycotted our programmes.
Despite efforts to discredit the Congress, 43 youth from all parts of the state purchased nomination forms to aspire for 17 elective offices of the Council, 187 Voluntary Youth Organizations purcahesed validation forms. This clearly indicates how desperate the youth of Katsina State want elected leadership. But somebody somewhere from the comfort of his office, think he can abort this dream.
*WHO IS AFRAID OF NYCN ELECTION AND WHY*
During the 2020 budget defense excersice, an old man in the corridors of power was uncovered to have been diverting forty million naira every month from the Department of Youth Development in the name of some ghost youth unions. This same old man is behind the vain effort to impose his stooge over the teeming youths of Katsina State so that his shady dealings will continue unchecked, we stand to resit your antics old man. (When the time comes, we will name him.)
we have gone far and will not turn back. Election must hold. 7th November is sacrosanct. NYCN belongs to the youth. It’s not a political party, be warned! We are not demanding for contract, neither are we begging for appointments. We are not even demanding for accountability from you, we are only saying allow us to choose our leaders by ourselves. Enough of imposition.
Yours in struggle
