The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede has appealed to the government to stop funding the capital and overhead of the examination body.
Professor Oloyede said this when he appeared before the House of Representatives committee on finance in continuation of the 2023-2025 medium term expenditure framework session at the National Assembly, Abuja.
The Registrar explained that the government should only be paying staff salaries to grant the examination body full autonomy.
He asked the National Assembly to stop using the successes of JAMB in remittances as a yardstick to measure the performance of other examination bodies in the country.
According to the JAMB registrar, examination bodies are not revenue generating agencies but social service providers.
The deputy chairman of the committee, Mr. Sa’idu Abdullahi, urged government agencies to emulate JAMB in the areas of transparency and accountability.
