Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has stressed that the implementation of the contributory pension scheme is inevitable to address the issue of pensions in the state.
Masari made this assertion at the commissioning of the medical and health workers plaza/guest house in Katsina on Tuesday.
According to him, the pension is rising on monthly basis, as such the state government must implement the contributory pension scheme in the state.
He urged workers in the state to embrace the scheme as it is the only way to guarantee the future of retirees in the state.
Masari called on the state civil servants not to entertain any fear, as all necessary mechanism has been put in place to address payment of retirees.
The National Vice President of the union Northwest zone, Comrade (Dr) Hussaini Hamisu, in his address, urged other state councils in the zone and the country in general to emulate the Katsina state council in the provision of structures meant to improve their income generation.
Hamisu commended the state council initiatives and achievements which he said would continue to move the union to greater heights.
He appreciated Governor Masari for being labour friendly, as salaries and pensions are being paid as at when due.
Comrade Mannir Mohammed Suleiman, the state Chairman of the union, in his welcome remarks, appealed to the state government to facilitate the equation of local council PHC/WATSAN staff as their counterpart in the state primary healthcare agency and others.
