Governor Aminu Bello Masari has inspected ongoing construction of multi million Naira Jibiya township storm water drainages.
The project is construction of phase one intervention urban drainage network for Jibiya town flood control project Emergency under the Katsina state Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management project-NEWMAP.
Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari was conducted round by Commissioner of Environment, Alhaji Hamza Sule and the NEWMAP project coordinator Engineer Ashiru Muhammad and the General Manager of the state Water Board.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the inspection, Governor Aminu Masari explained that the work is going on very well.
Alhaji Aminu Masari observed that the contractor had started with smaller version of the drainages, stressing that very soon the bigger trenches would be constructed in the town.
Governor Masari expressed satisfaction that the work is progressing steadily according to the work plan submitted by the company handling the project.
Asked to comment on the significance of the project, Alhaji Aminu Masari explained that about two years ago, there was heavy flood where many lives were lost , properties destroyed and animals killed during the floods with so many people loosing their means of livelihood.
He stressed that the issue of providing drainages and culverts is therefore very significant to the people of Jibiya.
So far he said what was executed on the ground is good, adding that the people of Jibiya needed to give encouragement to the contracting company.
He observed that once a new concrete was erected and people walked on it, the concrete would develop problems, stressing that people needed to cooperate with the officials of the firm carrying out the project.
He said he had directed the consultant supervising the project to ensure that standards of the world bank are strictly followed, adding that no payment will be made without making sure that standards are adhered to in the execution of the drainages project.
The Governor explained that the inspection was done to iron out issues of pipes supplying water to Jibiya that needed to be reposition for the drainages to be properly sited.
Alhaji Aminu Masari assured that the management of water board, the consultant and officials of the construction company would meet to resolve the difference for the project to continue unhindered.
