Condolence: Emir Of Musawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Gidado (1943-2020)

Alhaji Muhammadu Gidado was born on Sunday 20th June 1943. He first attended Malam Iro Mai Mazuru’s Qur’anic School Musawa town. He then proceeded to Junior primary school Musawa from 1950-1954, and thereafter to Kankia senior primary school from 1955-1956. He finished his primary education in minna Niger state where he attended the minna senior primary school from 1956-1957.
In 1958, he got admission to senior secondary school suleja and when the school was upgraded to a senior status he continued his educstion there in 1963.
After completing his senior secondary education, he passed the entrance examination to pursue teachers grade two certificate in Bauchi teachers college. As he was preparing to proceed to Bauchi, his father Durbi Usman Liman advised him to proceed to England and sit for G.C.E examination from where he could gain admission into university. Sebsequently, he and his younger brother Dr. Yusuf Bala Usman secured government scholarships and gained admission into Enfield college of Technology England where he studied human and environmental science. He was two years into the course from 1963 to 1965 when the issue of succession to the throne of his father came up. Eventually he had to return home and succeed his father who was still alive but holding a federal appointment.
For many years after ascending to his fathers throne, he attempted on several occasions to go back and complete his studies. He even attemted in 1967 to gain and admission into peace university in America but was opposed by his father Durbi Usman Liman who instructed that no Visa and other travelling documents be issued to him. He eventually resigned to his fate and faced his royal duties vigorously. However, he never regretted what his father close for him, because as the District Head of Musawa, he was always proud of his numerous contributions to the development of the entire Musawa District.
Sarkin Musawa Alhaji Muhammadu Gidado played significant role in bringing development to the people of Musawa Matazu and Jikamshi. In the education sector, there were only two primary scjools in Musawa and Matazu when he became the District head in 1965. But presently there are many primary and secondary schools in every nook and cranny of the district.
When he was a member of the educational development of Katsina and Daura, he influenced the sitting of a secondary school in Musawa which was earlier earmarked for Dutsinma. He solicited for the support of Matawalle Musa ‘yar’adua and iyan Katsina Alhaji Ibrahim Mashi both of whom ensured that the school was built in Musawa. He was also influential to the establishment of senior secondary schools in Matazu, Kamshi, Dangani and Tabannig while some additional schools where also established in Musawa including a community secondary named Dandattijo community secondary school, Musawa.
In the Health sector, it was during his reign that the General Hospital Musawa was constructed as well as many dispensaries and clinics in all towns and wards in Musawa District. It was during his time that Musawa was connected with electricity and a measure dam constructed, as well as the construction of a road from charanchi to Kafuisoli to Matazu to Musawa to Musawa, terminating at Kurkujan which boosted the economic well-being of Musawa. He also did his best to boost farming implements that improved food productionin Musawa District.
From the time he was turbaned as the Sarkin Musawa Alhaji Muhammadu Gidado held many other governmental positions where he contributed immensely to National Development. He was the chairman of the council of chiefs of Musawa District and Local Government from 1965 up to the time of his death. He was also a councilor in the old Dutsinma Local Government from 1970 to 1974, also in Kankia Local Government from 1974 to 1975. He also served as a member of the North Central State Educational Development Council from 1970 to 1974.
Sarkin Musawa Muhammadu Gidado was a Board member of the old Kaduna state council of History and culture from 1974 to 1978, and also served in the Board of Directors of the Katsina State History and culture Bereau in 1994. Further more, he was also the Board chairman of the Katsina state Environmental protection Agency in 2005. Alhaji Muhammadu Gidado was honoured with numerous Awards and certificates of honour.
Sarkin Musawa Muhammadu Gidado was known to be very patient and humble. He loved his people and was zealous about the development of his District. He helped his people and always strived to protect their interest and fight for their rights.
He died on Tuesday 1st September 2020, leaving behind two children, wives and younger brothers and sisters.
