The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, has promised to dismiss any officer caught compromising the statutory functions of the service.
Babandede gave the stern warning while addressing officers and men of the NIS command in Katsina.
“Our job is to secure the country’s borders — land, sea and air. Our problem is with land borders and things must change. There will not be any compromise again.”
According to him, the management of the service have taken care of your promotion and welfare and we expect you to work without compromise.
“Some of the personnel have been at their duty post for “donkey years” collecting bribes from citizens at their various checkpoints,” he noted.
The Immigration boss said reports have been received about the activities at the various checkpoints in the country, where most of the personnel were seen collecting bribes.
“NIS under my watch cannot compromise standards “because once you compromise, you have compromised the security of the country,” he maintained.
“Some of you have been at your duty post for donkey years; that is why you collect bribes. You will be shifted. If I touch you and you go and talk to a traditional ruler, you will only be getting yourself into traditional crisis.
“Likewise, if I touch you and you go and talk to a distinguished senator or honorable member, it will only lead to your honourable dismissal.
“Most of you know where the migrants are and you go to them to collect money. Enough is enough”, he warned, saying that, the service cannot allow the country to go down because of some useless forces. Your allegiance is to secure the country.’
