The Chief of Staff to Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State, Muntari Lawal, has dissociated himself from campaign posters linking him to the 2023 Katsina central senatorial election.
He explained that the printing and pasting of the posters within the Katsina metropolis were the work of those he termed mischief makers and pseudo campaigners.
Lawal, who disowned the circulated posters while briefing journalists at his Katsina GRA residence on Sunday, said he had directed the immediate removal of the posters across the state.
The former director-general of Masari campaign (2015 and 2019) further said those campaigners were out to blackmail him before the incumbent senator of the senatorial zone, Kabir Barkiya, and other All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains in the state.
He said: “The essence of the press conference is to reject what happened yesterday (Saturday) when posters of mine were posted in strategic places alleging that I am a candidate for the Senate position.
“This is a pure lie. This is something I don’t agree with and I condemned it in strong terms. I never have the intention nor ambition to contest any position as long as I am serving under the government of Aminu Bello Masari.”
According to him, “I have directed the immediate removal of all the campaign posters yesterday and launched an investigation to unravel those behind the act.”
